Crochet Cuteness

A Band of Love

img_3856I wanted three styles for my youth group headwarmers so I went on a Pinterest treasure hunt. I found a very cute heart earwarmer but there was no pattern. I then searched for a crocheted heart granny square and found This Video Tutorial which was very easy to follow. I wasn’t sure of the size in the tutorial, however, and when it was done it was way too big for a headwarmer. img_3924Any suggestions with what I should do with this lovely piece?? I don’t want to frog it as it turned out just fine, just not the size I wanted. 592B57C4-0096-4A4C-8928-1C2ACEA5D469 So, I therefore changed the dimensions which I have written below, then did a few more rows of the granny stitch on either side and did the back and border with a single crochet stitch(US). img_3857I’m half way done with the headwarmers for the group now! I will post when I get them all done. I have some yarn ordered for a bathroom rug which I can’t wait for. I haven’t settled on a pattern yet. Has anyone crocheted a rug? I would love tips or suggestions!19D42768-0A1E-4E00-AF87-989DD4036837 Small Heart Granny Square in cream and purple (I did not create this pattern, I only miniaturized it.)

You start by making the center of the heart

  • Chain 3
  • Round 1: In first stitch HDC 3 then chain 3, in same stitch HDC 3 then chain 3, repeat 2 more times so you have 4 in same stitch then Slip Stitch into top of first HDC img_3928
  • Chain3, HDC 3 into first open corner square then chain3, HDC 3 in same Open Square then Chain1 img_3930-1
  • Repeat in next corner, HDC 3 then Chain3, HDC 3 then Chain1 img_3932
  • Now do your third corner, HDC 3 then Chain3, HDC 3 then Chain1 img_3933
  • Your last corner is a bit different, HDC 3 Chain3 HDC 2 Slip stitch into 2nd chain from this round img_3934
  • Now we make the bottom of the heart, Chain2 then HDC 2 into middle open space. Switch colors by making loop with second color and pulling it through then Chain1. (Cut off 1st color leaving small tail and tie 1st an 2nd colors tails.) img_3936
  • With new color make corner. HDC 3 into corner space then Chain3, HDC 3 then switch colors back to 1st color by making loop with first color and pulling it through then Chain1. (Cut off 2nd color leaving small tail and tie 1st and second colors.) img_3938
  • HDC 3 into middle open space then Chain1, HDC 3 into corner then Chain3, HDC 3 then switch colors to 2nd color by making loop with 2nd color and pulling it through then Chain1. (Cut off 1st color leaving small tail and tie 1st and second color tails.) img_3940
  • HDC 3 then switch colors back to 1st color by making loop with first color and pulling it through then Chain1. (Cut off 2nd color leaving small tail and tie 1st and second colors.) img_3941
  • HDC 3 into corner open space then Chain3, HDC 3 into corner then Chain1, HDC 3 then switch colors to 2nd color by making loop with 2nd color and pulling it through then Chain1. (Cut off 1st color leaving small tail and tie 1st and second color tails.) img_3942
  • HDC 3 into last corner then Chain3, HDC 3 into corner then Chain1 and Slip Stitch into the 3rd stitch of the Chain3 bottom if the heart. img_3943
  • Now do a framing round all around the heart in your 2nd color. You can work the ends in from last rounds or you can crochet over them and cut them off. Chain3 then HDC 3, Chain1 then HDC 3 into corner space, Chain3 then HDC 3 into corner space, Chain1. HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC3 (2nd corner) then Chain3, HDC 3 into 2nd corner then Chain1
  • HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC 3 (3rd corner) then Chain3, HDC 3 into 3rd corner then Chain1, HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC 3 then Chain1, HDC 3 (4th corner) then Chain3, HDC 3 into 4th corner then Chain1, HDC2 then SlipStitch into 2nd stitch of the first Chain3 from this round. Chain1 and tie off. Work in any remaining tails.

That’s it for the Mini Heart Granny Square. img_3947
